Ozempic and Mounjaro are different medicines with increasingly varied presentations. Comparing US cost means matching the intended indication, device, supply and actual eligible payment—not assuming all weekly injection offers cover every pack.

Which treatment meets the clinical need?
Semaglutide and tirzepatide work differently and have different approved uses. Mounjaro is approved for glucose control in type 2 diabetes from age 10, while Ozempic’s US indications are for adults. Their cardiovascular uses and formulations also differ. Ask the prescriber whether both are suitable before comparing personal costs.
Put devices and scheduled doses on the same basis
For injectable treatment, four weekly doses represent 28 days, but they may be delivered from different numbers of devices. Mounjaro’s current multidose presentations and Ozempic’s multidose pens should not be counted as single-dose pens. If Ozempic tablets are being considered, a daily tablet bottle needs its own quantity and days’ supply rather than an assumed weekly-injection equivalence.
Check the plan before subtracting a saving
Request the actual claim result for each prescribed product, including dose, presentation, indication and supply. Ask whether an authorization, step requirement, quantity limit or deductible affects the payment. A covered-product copay and a noncovered-product cash estimate answer different questions. Keep consultation, supplies and follow-up charges outside the medicine-only amount.
Compare US supply, offers and switching checks
Compare the prescribed supply and actual eligible payment before applying a manufacturer offer.
| Cost/access check | Ozempic | Mounjaro |
|---|---|---|
| Device count | A multidose pen differs from a single-dose syringe pack | A four-dose KwikPen differs from four single-dose pens |
| Manufacturer offer check | Route- and presentation-specific NovoCare terms | The 2026 commercial card covers eligible adults using the single-dose pen |
| Switching question | No milligram equivalence to tirzepatide | A new prescription and clinical instructions are required |
Mounjaro savings eligibility differs from its approved uses
The 2026 Mounjaro commercial card applies to eligible adults using the single-dose pen for an approved use. It has coverage-dependent limits and government-program exclusions. These terms do not automatically cover children’s prescriptions, vials or KwikPens. Ozempic has separate NovoCare terms for its formulations; check the exact prescription against those requirements.
Finding uninsured prices

Planning a treatment change
A switch requires a new prescription, explicit dosing instructions and any necessary device training. Do not convert between semaglutide and tirzepatide by matching milligrams. Ask whether authorization is needed, when the first fill can be obtained and what ongoing payments will be after any introductory offer. For further context, read the Tirzepatide Dosing guide and Ozempic Side Effects guide.
Questions and answers
Does a shared weekly schedule make Ozempic and Mounjaro equivalent?
No. They have different ingredients, mechanisms, labels and devices.
Can Mounjaro’s commercial-card terms be applied to every presentation?
No. The commercial-card terms specify eligible adults using the single-dose pen. Confirm current support separately for other presentations.
Does a pediatric Mounjaro indication establish savings-card eligibility?
No. Clinical labeling and offer eligibility are separate.
Which price belongs in a fair comparison?
The actual eligible payment for each clinically appropriate prescription over a matched continuing supply period, with separate charges identified.
