How Steglatro works

Steglatro is used with diet and exercise to improve glucose control in adults with type 2 diabetes. It blocks SGLT2 in the kidneys, increasing the amount of glucose passed in urine.

Strength and kidney review

Tablets contain 5 or 15 mg and are used once daily. Kidney function affects suitability and glucose-lowering effectiveness. A higher strength does not bypass a kidney restriction, and the prescriber must evaluate the appropriate regimen rather than selecting from a strength list alone.

Ketoacidosis and fasting

The label warns about ketoacidosis and includes interruption before surgery or prolonged fasting under clinical direction. Ketoacidosis can occur without markedly elevated glucose. Ask the team for the exact interruption and restart plan and for advice during illness or reduced food intake.

Other precautions

Volume depletion, genital fungal infections, urinary infections and lower-limb amputation are among the warnings. Foot symptoms, hydration and kidney function deserve attention. A serious infection or significant symptoms of ketoacidosis should not be managed by simply waiting for the next routine appointment.

Ertugliflozin in Segluromet

Segluromet combines ertugliflozin with metformin and has additional restrictions, including a boxed warning for lactic acidosis. When changing to or from the combination, ask the prescriber to check both ingredients and explain which tablets it replaces.
