Segluromet: Uses, Forms and Safety Reference

Segluromet combines ertugliflozin and metformin for type 2 diabetes. Its two-component safety profile and twice-daily tablet regimen distinguish it from ertugliflozin alone.

The approved uses and formulations described here follow US prescribing information. They may differ in other countries.

Medicine detail Details
Active ingredient(s) ertugliflozin / metformin hydrochloride
Medicine class SGLT2 inhibitor / biguanide combination
Forms and strengths Oral tablets: 2.5/500, 2.5/1000, 7.5/500 and 7.5/1000 mg

Approved use in the United States

Segluromet is used alongside diet and exercise in adults with type 2 diabetes. Ertugliflozin increases glucose passed in urine by blocking SGLT2, while metformin has other effects on glucose regulation. Segluromet does not have the broader heart-failure or kidney indications approved for some other SGLT2 medicines.

Four paired strengths

The four tablet strengths combine 2.5 or 7.5 mg ertugliflozin with 500 or 1,000 mg metformin. The label describes twice-daily administration with meals. Both ingredient totals matter, so the first number alone does not identify the prescribed daily regimen.

The metformin boxed warning

Lactic acidosis is the boxed warning, and kidney impairment can restrict use. Acute illness, alcohol, certain procedures and other risk factors need review. Ask the clinical team for a procedure and illness plan that accounts for both ingredients rather than relying on the ertugliflozin-only instructions.

Additional SGLT2 precautions

Ketoacidosis, volume depletion, infections and lower-limb amputation risk are among the warnings. The label includes interruption before surgery or procedures associated with prolonged fasting, under clinical direction. Report serious symptoms promptly; glucose need not be markedly elevated for ketoacidosis to occur.

Checking for duplicate ingredients

Steglatro contains ertugliflozin alone, and metformin is available separately and in other combinations. When Segluromet is prescribed, confirm which existing medicines it replaces to avoid taking the same ingredient twice unintentionally.
