Different maximum doses for adults and children

Trulicity pens contain 0.75, 1.5, 3 or 4.5 mg in 0.5 mL. The maximum dose for children is 1.5 mg weekly, lower than the adult maximum. The prescribing clinician selects the dose and any increase appropriate to the person’s age and treatment response.

A single-use weekly device

Each pen contains one dose. Device training and the supplied instructions matter, including what to do with a damaged device or a missed dose. A pen from another GLP-1 product may be multidose, so familiarity with one brand does not replace a demonstration for Trulicity.

Boxed warning and other precautions

The label has a thyroid C-cell tumor boxed warning based on animal findings, with human relevance unknown, and contraindications for personal or family medullary thyroid carcinoma or MEN2. Pancreatitis, severe gastrointestinal effects, dehydration-related kidney injury, gallbladder disease and retinopathy considerations also require review.

Other weekly diabetes injections

Ozempic contains semaglutide and Mounjaro contains tirzepatide. Their strengths, devices and instructions differ from Trulicity’s. A weekly schedule alone does not make them interchangeable; discuss any treatment change with the prescribing team.
