Tablets and kidney effects

Empagliflozin blocks SGLT2 in the kidneys, increasing the amount of glucose passed in urine. Jardiance tablets contain 10 or 25 mg. A higher dose may be prescribed for glucose control, but it does not mean greater heart or kidney protection. Kidney function and the reason for treatment guide the regimen.

Recognizing ketoacidosis risk

Ketoacidosis can occur without markedly elevated blood glucose. Illness, reduced food intake, fasting and surgery can change risk. Ask for a clinician-directed plan for these situations. Severe symptoms need assessment even if a glucose reading does not look unusually high.

Hydration and infection precautions

Volume depletion, genital fungal infection, serious urinary infection and rare severe perineal infection are relevant warnings. Review kidney function, diuretics and symptoms of dehydration with the clinical team. Foot health also deserves attention under the current label’s precautions.

Jardiance and combination tablets

Synjardy combines empagliflozin with metformin; Glyxambi combines it with linagliptin. Their additional ingredients bring different precautions, and their approved uses differ from Jardiance’s. Check the full product name when discussing a prescription.

Questions and answers

Is Jardiance only used in people with diabetes?

No. Some adults receive Jardiance for heart failure or chronic kidney disease without having diabetes. The prescriber checks the criteria and limitations for the intended use.

Does 25 mg mean more heart protection than 10 mg?

That conclusion should not be drawn from tablet strength. The indication-specific label and prescriber determine the regimen.

Is Synjardy simply another Jardiance brand?

No. It adds metformin and has a separate combination label.
