Injection and tablet uses differ
Wegovy injection is approved for weight management in qualifying adults and children aged 12 years and older. It is also approved to reduce cardiovascular events in adults with established cardiovascular disease and overweight or obesity. The tablets have weight-management and cardiovascular uses in specified adults, rather than the injection’s pediatric weight-management indication.

Wegovy injection for MASH
Wegovy injection is also approved for adults with noncirrhotic metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH) and moderate-to-advanced liver fibrosis consistent with stages F2–F3. This accelerated approval is based on improvements in measures of liver disease; continued approval may depend on confirmation of clinical benefit. Wegovy tablets do not have this indication.

Strengths and devices
Injection strengths include doses through 2.4 mg and a 7.2 mg HD presentation, with specified single-dose and multidose devices. Oral tablets contain 1.5, 4, 9 or 25 mg. The appropriate product and dose depend on route, age, treatment purpose and stage of treatment. These strengths are not interchangeable or a dosing plan to follow without a prescription.

Boxed warning and precautions
The thyroid C-cell tumor boxed warning is based on animal findings, with human relevance unknown. Personal or family medullary thyroid carcinoma or MEN2 is a contraindication. Pancreatitis, serious gastrointestinal effects, gallbladder disease, dehydration-related kidney injury and other label precautions require clinical review.

Avoid duplicate semaglutide treatment
Ozempic and Rybelsus also contain semaglutide. The Wegovy label does not recommend use with another semaglutide product or another GLP-1 receptor agonist. An oral-versus-injection change needs specific instructions; the strength numbers are not an equivalence scale.
